System Administrator

This position will work side-by-side with our CTO, serve as the trusted liaison to outside support vendors and managed service providers (MSP), and play a hands-on roll in our IT transformation journey. Position Basics
 

  • Location: On-site in Syracuse, NY
  • Pay: $80,000 to $95,000 per year dependent on experience
     

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
 

  • Be the primary point of contact with our outside support vendors and MSP, ensuring issues are triaged quickly, communication is clear and service levels are consistently met. 
  • Monitor & maintain our enterprise systems in close collaboration with the CTO and our vendor partners, keeping performance, availability and security top of mind. 
  • Provide on-site technical support for situations where a physical presence makes all the difference—from hardware deployments and facility moves to production troubleshooting.
  • Partner with CTO on IT transformation initiatives, contributing your perspective and execution skills to projects that modernize how we operate. 
  • Learn quickly and apply what you learn. Our technology stack evolves with the business, and you'll be expected to pick up new platforms, tools and practices and put them to work.
  • Document, improve and share. Help build the knowledge base and processes that keep up resilient while we scale. 
     

Key Skills & Abilities
 

  • Comfortable deploying and troubleshooting desktop, workstation, and production-floor equipment; provides user support in office and production environments
  • Proactive and ownership-driven, with strong problem-solving and follow-through
  • Collaborative communicator with experience working across departments and with vendors and service providers
  • Curiosity about technology and a demonstrated ability to rapidly apply new tools, systems and concepts
  • Able to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Strong background in Microsoft desktop and server operating systems and 365 applications
  • Familiarity with backup and restore methodology
  • Experience with Linux server operating systems and their management
  • Significant knowledge of networking technologies, including TCP/IP and VPNs
  • Familiarity with web services and e-commerce technology support
  • Able to navigate server room/data center and understand how systems and equipment connect and relate to one another
     

Education 
 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field
  • An equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience will be given strong consideration
     

Experience
 

  • A minimum of 3 years administrating enterprise systems in a business environment, including networking, servers, end-user devices, identity and common business applications
