Shelving Selection Guide
1. Wood, Steel or Wood Frames & Steel Shelving
First decide if you want wood shelving, steel shelving or wood frames with steel shelves. Wood shelving, though more expensive than steel, offers the inviting warmth of natural beauty. Durable steel provides and economical, long-lasting solution to your shelving needs. A third option is an affordably priced wood case with steel shelves, combining the beauty of wood with the strength of steel. Gaylord offers selections in all three choices.
No matter what type of shelving you need-- flat, periodical, divider, or multimedia-- you will find it in our website. We also have glass door shelving, mobile shelving, and 20"D bookcase shelving for specific purposes.

Starter & Adder Units
Library shelving can be ordered in "starter" and "adder" sections, or in bookcases. (Starters are 37"W; adders are 36"W). Starter/adder configurations share a single intermediate panel, saving cost and providing a continuous range of shelving. Starter sections generally consist of a top, base, shelves, and two end panels. Adder units have a single "2-sided" intermediate panel in place of the end panels. NOTE: Starter/adder sections from different suppliers may not be compatible. Also, Gaylord adders purchased after 1/1/2004 are not compatible with shelving units purchased prior to that date.
Single- or Double-Faced
Gaylord library shelving is generally available in 42", 48", 60" 72" and 82" heights in single-faced and double-faced sections. Both are available in starter/adder configurations. Single-faced sections should be secured against a wall. Double-faced sections are suitable for free-standing ranges.Single-faced sections are either 10"D or 12"D with 9"D and 11"D shelves. Double-faced sections are 21"D or 25"D with back-to-back 9"D or 11"D shelves respectively.
